Kids Room Tips

Decorating ideas for a room that a boy and girl will be sharing?

We will be moving soon and my kids have to share a room, any ideas how to decorate it and not have it too girly? Have you seen any websites that have ideas? Thanks!

  1. Make it look like a tennis court. Have the wall with the beds on it the score board with the kids names. The net runs down the middle seperating the two halves. The boys wall can have a mural of a view he might like, while the girls wall can have a mural of something a little more feminine. A unisex sport theme works well, because it offers a natural split to the room.
  2. Try picking a universal color scheme, greens, blues and pinks, or pick neutral colors, browns and taupes, and then use bedding and accessories that are gender neutral. Cool lighting, striped bedding, etc. Or if you really want fun and unique, try splitting the room up...Pick paint colors that work well together and pick out bedding based on each kids' hobbies - baseball, cheerleading, horses, dance, football, etc. You can always find picture bedding at VisionBedding.com They have tons of pictures to choose from and if you don't see one you like, they will be able to get one. This is an easy way to related to each child without picking a theme that they both have to love.
  3. YELLOW!! Its bright and sunny and gender neutral.
  4. i dont have good website actually... but tell you what... its going to be a great idea to divide the room into 2 parts ... 2 beds ... one with a pink girly style.... and the other with blue ... even the wall painting ... it would be an awesome idea to paint half of the room pink and the other half blue... it will look great and if i was sharing my brother's room i would have done this
  5. How old are the kids? My friend has her kids sharing a room -- six year old girl, four year old boy. We painted the wall behind her daughter's bed to look like a castle wall. She has princess bedding. On her son's wall, we painted a dragon and decorated his bed with a coat-of-arms shield type pillow and neutral bedding. Other accessories are themed to match. It works well for them.
  6. Paint it "kiwi" green with "dover white" trim by Sherwin Williams. http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp Then you can get them constrasting bedding - yellow or pink for her, dark blue or neon orange for him. Is there a movie that they both like? Like "Cars," "Ratatouille" or "Finding Nemo?" You could buy curtains, lamps and decorative items with that theme.
  7. it's illegal to place male and female siblings in the same room, have fun.
  8. I think it would be cool to let them both pick a color and then let them pick a side of the room and paint it there color lol and if they fight alot i would let them like get a big sheet or maybe even shower curtains and use as a room divider lol that would give them more privacy to
  9. My uncle hung some louvered closet doors on a track in the ceiling of the room my 2 cousins shared, creating two separate rooms for them; It was not a big room to begin with but it did serve the purpose of letting each of them have their "own" room to decorate it the way they wanted to. You could go a bit further and hang blue foam board onto hanging doors to create giant bulletin boards on one or each side. of the doors.
  10. I don't know how old your children are, but if they are older than four, this is not a good idea. Yellows and greens would work.
