Little kids visiting patients in shared hospital rooms - Bad idea? Okay?
I have a very sick aunt who had major surgery and spent nearly two weeks in the hospital. Both of her roommates at the hospital had visitors who brought their little kids into the room for hours and hours at a time. The kids would run around and make a lot of noise. Cry a lot and scream. That was bad enough, but I worried about all the germs that little kids can bring into the hospital. Kids are germy creatures. I asked the head nurse about it and they said there is nothing in their hospital policy that prohibits little kids. I think it's unfair to the other patients who are trying to recuperate. What do you think?

- I think it is awful that they allow people to bring young kids, that is toddlers into multi-bed rooms in hospitals. I have seen little kids traumatised by some patients, not to mention the infections, such as sore throats they can transmit. I think only adults should be allowed. But I do think they should provide somewhere else for them to visit.
- Hospitals used to have policies that no one under age 12 could visit. I think that policy should be initiated again. I've been a hospital patient who was awakened and annoyed by children yelling and running about and babies crying. When you are in the hospital you are usually VERY sick and do not appreciate the distraction. If a small child's parent is hospitalized, there should be a family room available for the child to see the parent, but it should be away from the floor where the rest of the patients are staying. I agree with you about the germs, too. Hospitals aren't amusement parks.
- It's certainly a bad idea. Kids duplicate the enviroment. and kid may want to be sick like patients.
