Kids Room Tips

Our 2 sons graduate next month from H.S. How long do we have to throw a party?

We are finishing a very, very long house remodel. What we have is goregous. A new kitchen, tile, carpet in the bedrooms, finished bedrooms - all gorgeous. But, don't have furniture. Two of the bathrooms aren't finished, one has no shower door or toilet; our bathroom has no toilet, tub or shower. And, the front yard is not landscaped There are no window treatments on any of the windows except the kids' bedrooms, not even ours (thank God for large trees!); Only the bedrooms and the front room have furniture and the furniture in the front room is ready for the curb. We feel pressured. We want the party, but we feel rushed. We want to wait, but if we do, we'll end up with a house party and no graduation ceremony. Maybe no party! Any ideas? Nothing with the big bucks please, we don't live in the O.C. Thank you. Our hallway bath is in full working order, tub/shower/toilet/sink, it's just the old part of the house, no remodeling done, but it can be polished up.

  1. I've only been to 2 grad parties and they were both outside. So the question is can you get the landscaping done soon? It's a good time to do outdoors with the weather so warm.
  2. What's the object of the party? Is it to show off your possessions? Is it to ensure that everyone sees how "beautiful" everything is? Or is it to celebrate your child's accomplishment? What is more important to you? Guests won't care if the house isn't finished. I've gone to parties at unfinished homes, and we had fun. Just explain ahead of time that the house is in disarray, but that you want to do something to mark your child's milestone. Get a port-a-potty if necessary. But don't delay the party just because your house isn't in order. My mother always told us to put people before things. I think she is a smart woman. So I'm telling you the same thing.
  3. If you promise to hold one later, don't forget. Not that a party is required.
  4. who sats rhe party has to be at your house?
  5. when i graduated from high school all the parties were held within 2 weeks of the end of the school year. if you wait much longer thn that a lot of your kids' friends will be gone on vacations or working summer jobs or taking summer college courses (unless they're all slackers). HOWEVER. most graduation parties are outside. all you have to do is make sure your bathroom is clean and that you have plenty of outdoor seating space. and its going to be a bunch of teenagers anyway, right? they couldn't care less what your house looks like. i promise.
