Is it cheesy to give kids furniture as christmas gifts, but not their main presents?
I finished my christmas shopping for my 12 and 13 year olds. They are getting a ds lite and lots of those little expensive gadgets. When they are wrapped up, they don't look like much. I miss the good old days of big cheap toys when they were younger. I was planning on remodelling their room including some bunk beds. They come in boxes that I would have to assemble. I was thinking maybe I could wrap them up as presents. they technically are for them. I could have them open them and here, "man... furniture." When they get through the 5 bigger furniture boxes, I could have them open their "real" presents. It would be kinda like in that christmas carol movie where the Red Ryder BB gun was hidden behind the tree.

- One year I asked for bunk beds for Christmas and then another year I asked for a bookshelf... so I think it would be fine. If you are worried... make them open the other gifts first...
- I think it is a great idea. Kids love new furniture almost as much as adults!
- no kids love new furniture thats a great idea
- I think it sounds like a great idea! Depending on how involved they are in renovating their rooms -- they may like the furniture presents best or at least as much as their other gifts. And if they grumble while opening them -- it would be neat to see them open their "real" gifts after wading thru the furniture. Either way it goes, sounds like an excellent plan.
- I think that's a sweet idea. Maybe you'll be surprised and they will be excited about the bunk beds...I know I thought they were cool when I was their age. Maybe you could also give them some way of deciding how they can have their room remodeled, like by giving them a gift card to the paint store, or getting them sheets or posters with a theme you know they like.
- I think it's a great idea!! To be honest, I know of some parent's that would count the furniture (and only the furniture) as a gift. Your kids are lucky!
- Furniture is a great gift for a kid. My kids are a bit younger, but their grandmother recently bought them new bedroom furniture and they were very excited. If that's not the main gift, I see no problem with that whatsoever.
- wow i would have just been excited about the furniture! lol if they don't know you're remodelling their room, that would be a nice surprise. either way, i think it's a great idea!
- 3 of my 4 kids have a furnture item on their Christmas list! New furniture is cool to a kid! Heck it's cool to an adult......... I think I will add "new dining table" to my Christmas listen and see if Santa comes through for me lol
