Kids Room Tips

Extreme Makeover-are these kids repressed?

The show tonight about the Marine from Kansas... he lost his leg in Iraq and then his wife left him with 4 kids to care for... You get the feeling the kids are completely disconnected from the show. They show no emotion or happiness at getting a new house, at going on vacation, at Hanna Montana concert, at their special rooms, at pretty much anything. Many military fathers are known to treat their kids with a totalitarian nature....these kids didn't show happiness or emotion throughout the entire show, it was weird....I feel sorry for them.

  1. I truly doubt that the father has any thing to do with it. It's more likely that their mother has abandoned them that has affected them more. You're also not taking in to concederation that fact that they have gone through a lot and they're probably not sure what real and what's not. Not to mention the oldest was only 9 years old, the other's was probably over whelmed by what was going on. The youngest was only 3 how were they supposed to act??? As a mother of three and someone who's dealt with a lot of other kids, I didn't find their reaction all that strange.
  2. I got the exact same feeling except in the fact about the wife leaving them... they gave no reason on why she divorced him... wives dont normally divorce a person with 4 children because of being overwhelmed with a bionic leg, there has to be more to the story. the kids also were probably given scripts.
  3. They are very young to even know what was going on, they were excited to go to the concert, especially the 9 year old. I mean seriously think about it, if you're mother left you to a father who has a disability it probably wouldn't be the happiest household. Its not only hard on the dad but on the kids too.
  4. I bawled through that show. It was so emotional. I did notice that the younger girl seemed disconnected. But I doubt that she was aware of when the cameras were on her. She was quite young and probably didn't understand the whole idea of the show. The father was incredible.
  5. Maybe the kids are sad because half of them live with the mom, who is remarried and down the street and now they probably feel torn between their homes and the inequality between mom's and dad's homes. The wife said in an intereview there were problems with the marriage, and the money he got for his injury went missing for the most part. I was more shocked at how many maimed and PTSD soldiers we have coming back from Iraq. ABC just likes to make these tearjerk stories from people's drama. It's nice though that they can make money by giving away new homes, and it's great PR. The family gives up a little pride and family secrets and they get a new home. :-)
  6. The youngest girl seemed to have an emotional or learning problem. The other 3 children seemed pretty normal to me. I'm sure it was very overwhelming. I wonder if the father has any help with the children; he really needs it. Be sure to watch next week. The episode comes from my hometown, Louisville. It will be upbeat. Following the progress on the news was amazing.
