Kids Room Tips

Teen in need of a room makeover. Please help!!?

Ok I am 13 and we just moved into this new home. I got my own room. The kid in the room before we moved in had her room painted with the sky and on the top is the sky and clouds (it is so 7 years old). I wanna make my room more like a teen room. I like music alot and I want a little feng shui in my room. I want it to be a really neat room. One that I will be proud of. Does anyone have any advice to do that or any websites I can go to to help me. Anything will help. Thanks!!

  1. make sure you choose a neutral colour for the walls then you can add whatever accessories you like to personalise it and change them around having to redecorate. also lots of storage maybe some built in cupboards
  2. reet. Choose two colours that go together. do alternate walls in these colours. i did walls facing one way in blue and others in cream. then put shit loads of posters up cos everyone loves posters, Lastly choose curtains that match.
  3. First pick blues, greys, or tan colors for the walls. Next do not by any means place ur bed directly in front of the door, bad energy and u might have trouble sleeping. Place a mirror on the wall opposite the door opening so u can see who is coming into ur room at all time, lol. Get a small elephant with his trunk pointing up for good energy and enlightment. Fresh flowers, never fake. Oh and if anything ur placing back in the room is broken or dirty old, don't put it back cause u need to get rid of old stale things. Remember to pick only things u really need or love back into ur room, good luck! I have read alot about this, and practice it myself.
  4. Here is a good site with the steps you should take to start your project: http://www.doityourself.com/stry/ara_roomredesignteen Here are some cool color schemes/ideas: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_childrens/article/0,1793,HGTV_3367_5797309,00.html http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_childrens/article/0,1793,HGTV_3367_4256070,00.html Just find colors you like! And look online, there are tons of ideas.
  5. try to work with what you have if the sky is that bad then repaint it in a pale color and then put another color glaze on top of it when it is dry sand it down and the apply a satin finish on top pick the wall that is seen first when you walk in and use both colors you used on the ceiling to make 1" stripes then get black or stainless frames for pictures and or posters I would rather you get old school posters movies or bands. Finish of the space (walls that are left) with one of the coloors you used for a young lady your age this should create enough change and drama and your parents wont go crazy pick a bed like a futon or day bed so it looks like a studio good luck and congrats on the new house
  6. Well the ceiling clouds need to go, that should be white. I didn't look at the other answers, so I'm sorry if I repeat something. What's your favorite color? Perhaps a version of it on your walls. Your best bet, however, would be to just paint the walls white, or a cream color or something. This way, you can add a wallpaper border of something you like (I did horses when I was 10) or posters or something - and nothing clashes with white. *note: I realize nothing clashes with black either, but take it from a girl who had a black room when she was a teenager - it feels SOOOOOOO small. And it was TERRIBLE to paint over later. Then you can go to somewhere like Bed Bath and Beyond and get a "Bed in a bag" set - they have LOTS of designs. Pick something in a color or pattern you like. Posters are always a good way to start - your favorite music artists or something. Another good thing - storage! You can buy little drawers that slide under your bed to store makeup or hair things in, a nice wood CD rack or something for your music or DVDs. A pretty desk would be good for doing homework and such, and if you have your own computer or something. (I don't know, do kids even still do homework on paper?) If you have a lot of CDs, a stereo is DEFINITELY a must. Lamps are good too, instead of one big light. If you like the light streaming in your room in the morning, you'll want to opt for thinner, lighter curtains (nothing too thin or see-through because if it's dark outside and light inside, people can see in!) If you don't like that, then go for something heavier for your windows. Either way, there are a LOT of options for curtains as well (picking something to match your bed would be good). I always wanted a hippie theme in my room when I was younger, so I don't know if you're into that, but tie dye is always kinda cool. Or if you're into animals, a tiger or zebra print theme. Or a jungle. Into the beach? Pick fish and stuff. GOOD LUCK!! I hope I helped.
  7. If you like music alot you can't go wrong with hanging c.d.s or records on the wall. ( if you use c.d.'s hang the metallic side out) it would be awesome to have a grayish~purple~blue color on the walls accented with orange. that gives it a really funky, retro feel to it, - also if you want it to be neat. find cool looking bins from maybe target to keep your clutter in. ....Hope this helps
