Tips on organizing kids toy room?
We have one room we use as a toy room for our 3 yr old. There's also a desk in there along with all her toys and books. What are some good organizing tips for this room? She has a play kitchen and lots of toys, books, and stuffed animals. I'm not much of a organizer in any area, so any help would be great! Thanks~

- Get lots of clear, plastic bins with lids for the toys, books and all the play kitchen food. Label the bins with a picture of what is in the bin and the name of the items in the bin. Keep the bins on a low shelving unit. You can buy a plastic chain that has clips attached for hanging the stuffed animals from. You can buy small book display for displaying a few of your child's favorite books.
- I have a 3 year old as well. We went to Target and bought these big wooden cubes. They're great, you can stack them together or space them out or whatever. In his bedroom, we have one whole wall of these cubes for his toys and books. You can also buy these canvas bags that will fit into the cubes. We have about 3 of those that just slide right into the bottom ones, and we've filled them with the smaller toys, cars, legos, etc... You can put some of the stuffed animals on top of the cubes, or buy a hammock to hang on the wall for them to rest in. They also sell toy organizers at Wal-Mart and Target. It's just a big shelf like thing that holds a bunch of plastic bins that you can just throw the toys in.
- > Clear plastic containers > Labels > Easily accessable low to the ground shelves > For crayons and art supplies try using a tackle box or make-up box ....these come in lots of fun colors and are great organizers > For flat books, coloring books, and puzzles an underbed storage box works great and can be stacked away perhaps in a closet ..........those are also good for art supplies like large pads of paper and different types of art supplies contained in smaller containers and stored in this large container. > Things can also be stored in backbacks or other bag and hung in a closet from a coat hanger > Over the door hooks can be used to hang long things such as jump ropes > You can hide all these stored things by using hook and latch on the back of some funky fabric to make a sort of curtain over shelving. Note: Which ever way you decide to organize the room make sure that it is easy for your child to clean up on their own without becoming frustrated. It is important that they take charge of this and keep up with it everytime they get done playing. They will make less mess and it teaches them responcibility for taking care of their belongings.
- My 2 1/2 year old has a toy room and we FINALLY organized it a few months ago (for the most part, it's hard to keep clean at his age, lol). We got one of these storage bins: http://www.target.com/gp/browse.html/ref=in_br_browse-box/601-3540680-2486509?ie=UTF8&node=13363321 and use it for his kitchen toys, blocks, small animals, etc. I found a book shelf on the clearance rack at Bed Bath & Beyond for $10, painted it and put it in there for his books. My husband went to Lowe's and purchased some shelves and installed them near the ceiling on two walls for his stuffed animals. We have been using a few plastic storage bins w/ lids for larger toys until we can get a real toy box. Have fun & involve your daughter with the project, she will be more likely to help keep it clean afterwards.
- Recently me and my wife had faced the same kind of situation with our 4 years old daughter's room. All the toys and dolls and books... ooh! Until we found a Daisy pastel toys and books storage cube her room was a mess. Look at this site - http://www.1888toys.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=94 they have so many different things, which may help you organizing. We have invented a game in which books and toys have their own particular 'room' on the shelf and all of them 'like' to return to their home after play or reading time. Now she picks up everything she had played with and puts it right into it's 'room'. Just our own story to share... Hope it helps you.
