what are some creative business ideas for stay at home moms?
I am very creative and am right now stuck in an unfulfilling yet cushy government job. I have two kids and desperately want to be home with them. I am very crafty, I sew clothing for my self, kids and friends. I sewed all of my own maternity wear because I refused to wear what was being offered. I also sew drapery, bedding and baby accessories. I also do some paintings for my childrens rooms that I've gotten some interest in. My name gets around town and I get work here and there but I fear giving up my cushy job since I'm not sure exactly what direction to go in. I need ideas for what to do with my talents or if it is even worth it.

- use ebay.com
- A good friend of mine just started her own Wedding Planner business. She is extremely busy and has alredy planned 4 weddings and has a client list of like 40 bride-to-be's
- You can sew cloth diapers & sell them for about $10-14 each on eBay. I'm seriously considering doing this myself. I sew a lot, too!
- set up an online store where you can sell your stuffs or your talent. my friend has an onlie store and she offers flowers, toys, knickknacks etc.. and items ordered by costumers are delivered via courier (local only). read and learn more about it, you would need to hire a website designer to set up your site and a little know how regarding deliveries and pricing.
- Have you tried looking into teaching classes? You can advertise cheaply wtih flyers or place an ad in the local newspaper. Also, there's a website that allows you to teach your talents online too. There are a few work at home jobs out there (link below) just in case that doesn't go well. Or you can just have people place orders with you and avoid the teaching thing, if it's not for you. Try it all BEFORE you quit to see if it looks like something promising.
- It is worth it if you think you can survive for the short-term on what your husband makes. It will take some time to build up a customer base. Having said that, if you market yourself well (and repeatedly) you may be able to create a market for the crafts you have. I would focus on more "upscale" parts of your town or city where people have a bit more disposable income. In addition to what you cite above, I would also suggest you try discovery toys, Usana Vitamins, and other home-based businesses that Mom's can do around the kids' schedules. Be persistent, good luck, and pray about this before you make the move. Also, in your analysis of being able to afford quiting your current job (or not) be sure to include the costs of benefits for which you are eligible offset by things like the cost of business clothes and commuting.
- You can create crafts and start either selling them at a flea market or through eBay. If they take off then you won't need you cushy job anymore. Barny, The cabbage patch kids, beany babies all started as an idea at home. Try creating something like that, it might catch on. Good luck
- I can really understand your want to stay home with the kids. Unfortunately unless you take the risk and open up a business, staying at home will never pay as much. My advice and I know it would be hard. Way your priorities, if being with your kids is really what you want then you'll have to sacrifice the material things.I guarantee it would be worth it. kids grow so fast you don't want to miss that for a better car, house or anything else. You sound like you have alot of talent. Maybe you could try doing those things on the side for now, get some business cards made, see how the response is.
- Sound like you already have many options.. Just get some business cards and do wht you do! However there are a few more suggestions that I may offer that you may enjoy.. Party Planning! There are so many people that use this service and you can offer whatever level you wish to work at, childrens birthday parties are really fun and something you most likely know already , again get your name out there, business cards and start a referal offer! Another that is awesome, Wedding Planning and espically if you want to offer a LOW COST WEDDING! Believe it or not I can plan start to finish EVERYTHING NEEDED! For under $500.! This is the one that people can`t hardly believe, for low income families can still give their daughter the dream wedding and sometimes the cost is lower! $5oo is going all out! If you would like to get more info on how to.. Just e-mail me! Be Blessed in all that you do!
- I know someone who literally made thousands a month selling scrunchies & plastic bag holders made of material on eBay. She was able to quit her job, and only devote a few hours a day to making the stuff (it takes about 2 minutes to make a scrunchy, about 5 to make a bag holder), and she spent not much money on material by buying remnants. She isn't rich, but does OK for a single Mom. Also, if you look as some of the original art on ebay, well, it can be shockingly bad, but people still buy it. If you are successful on eBay, you can start selling with your own website. Most of the eBay artists do so.

- As a stay at home mom who sew's for extra money I tend to push people in that direction who want to make extra money too. On our family home page http://www.allysgoodies.com I have a stay at home moms ideas for making money- Nothing spamy or any thing for sale its just some of my ideas. Depending on the time you have, you might consider: Craft Shows Consignment in a local store EBay Starting a website Contacting local businesses - IE day cares in your area and ask them if you can put some flyer's in their lobby for free. Donut Shop- I know it sounds crazy but every donut shop I have been in has a bulletin board for local businesses. Depending on the zoning in your area- put a sign up in your yard that you do sewing and murals ( we are not allowed to do that in our area and its a big fine if you do, so check first) Its really hard quiting your job to go out on your own. I worked for a large company as a corporate trainer before having the twins. Going back after was just not an option with the cost of daycare times 2 so I started selling on eBay. I like eBay, its low risk - only the cost of a listing and you do not have to list any more items than you want to. When things are stressful at work or home you don't have to list any, but when you need extra money you can list a bunch. Hope this helps- Take care!
- You may want to read the article "Top 10 Businesses for Work-at- Home Moms" http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol30/topten.htm which lists a few home business ideas for stay at home moms like you. Of course, the best home business will depend on what you want, how you define to be interesting. A person may consider a pet sitting business to be the most exciting work in the world, while you would rather watch TV than take care of dogs. Or some may say selling Avon but if you are not into personal selling then it will not work for you. The key is to determine what your interests are, what you want to do, what is suitable for your lifestyle and your overall goals, and what can fit with your resources. Dan Ramsey in his book "101 Best Home Businesses" has a chapter on how to find YOUR best home business. He suggests these 10 steps: 1. List 5 things you do best 2. List how others would benefit from what you do best 3. Find out how to give people what they want 4. Learn the value of your services to others 5. Find out who else offers similar services 6. Learn from the successes of others 7. Learn from the failures of others 8. Plan your own success 9. Make low cost mistakes 10. Enjoy what you do and how you do it He then made suggestions on the best home businesses according to type. Here are a few of them: Best Businesses Using Craft or Physical Skills - antique restoration - auto detail service - carpet cleaning business - errand/delivery service - housecleaning business Best Service Businesses - bed and breakfast operator - caregiver - catering service - senior day care center - tutoring service Best Professional Businesses - desktop publisher - magazine writer - import/export service - income tax preparation service - event planner Some other home business ideas: Top 10 Home Businesses with Rapid Break-Even Time http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol33/breakeven.htm 10 Profitable “Go-Out" Home Businesses http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol31/goout.htm Low Cost Startup Businesses http://www.entrepreneur.com/lowcostbusinesses/0,6617,,00.html 6 Hottest Businesses on the Web http://www.powerhomebiz.com/052006/web.htm You can also check out the following books: Turn Your Talents into Profits: 100+ Terrific Ideas for Starting Your Own Home-Based Microbusiness The Best Home Businesses for the 21st Century 121 Internet Businesses You Can Start from Home The Best Internet Businesses You Can Start 101 Ways to Make Money at Home To give you ideas on what exactly do you need to start your own business, here are ten things you need to know before launching your own business “10 Things You Need to Know When Starting Your Own Home Business” http://www.powerhomebiz.com/052006/startingbiz.htm .

- Hi, The most important thing to remember about job searches is that you should use a combination of methods regardless of your location. Networking - Register at your local Unemployment Office (you don't need to be on unemployment to register for their assistance). They often will have networking groups on a regular basis. They also are a good source for the jobs that never show up in the paper or online. Check your local paper -- In many cases the paper's classified are now online. Search Smart Online -- If you don't have a lot of time, spend most of your time at sites that aggregate the job feeds from several job search engines. Prominently these include indeed.com and thingamajob.com. Organization -- I use a free online application that allows you to track your ads, jobs you apply for, send or print mail merged correspondence, and track your job search history. This site is jobsearchlog.com Good Luck, Karen http://indeed.com http://job-hunt.org http://jobsearchlog.com
