  1. How about to move your class to out-door, change topic everytime which you noticed that it's will be pursuade their attention such as how your imgine of playground. Or take them to art-exhibition which you thought it will be suite with your curriculums.
  2. Kids with autism need to have warnings when transitioning from one thing to another. Let him know five minutes before it's time to go back to class, and count down each minute for him. This gives him time to prepare for the change. While in the classroom, over-stimulation is the biggest problem for a child with autism. If possible, keep the lights low, or provide him with a light at his desk, that has a regular light bulb. Flourescent lighting can be a problem. Understand that he sees the world differently from other kids, and be as flexible as possible in dealing with him.
  3. As a long term single parent of a child with High Functioning Autism -- you need to provide 10 minute transition warnings EACH and every day -- and be consistent about it -- especially with the playground coming before the art time. Children with Autism like the Art -- it allows them to be creative in their own world, but THEY DO NEED the transition warning -- at the SAME TIME each and every day. The emphasis here is on transition -- use the child's classroom aide as your helper in this transition time. I also made sure that my own child (Asperger's Syndrome) was allowed 5 minutes before the next class start to begin the walk back to the classroom, to put up their coat/whatever, and to get their supplies and sit down PRIOR to the mad rush of the other students doing the same -- because that upset my child and she had difficulty if she did not transition first to the new activity.
  4. I am not sure if you are a teacher, but according to federal special education laws called IDEA, the child is suppose to have a teacher who is 'qualified and trained' in knowing how to handle the child and how to help with the problems the child has. Even though I know that most schools don't hire teachers like this. And I think that most teachers don't even know this is the law.
