Kids Room Tips

how can I keep my kids safe on the PS3 Internet?

I have 2 young teenagers in the house. With all of the stories about pedophiles etc.. I keep a close eye on their internet activity. When my 13 year old girl discovered chat rooms and MSN I even went as far as installing a keylogger (I don't snoop or use the contents against them- I just make sure there is nothing potentially dangerous). My question is this; how can I keep a better eye on the PS3 internet connection? My 16 year old just bought a new accessory to make web surfing on the PS3 easier which made me realize I have no idea how to monitor it! Does anyone know how to view internet activity on the PS3 other than just checking the history?

  1. they are old enough to know what not to do.
  2. Is it possible via lot of tools and also possible to erase all the things. So don't worry about it. Let them know the seriousness of the dangerous thing in internet. In these age, they are already matured enough to understand the things in internet. And also it's not possible to find a solution to keep an aye always. They are intelligent than you in this area... Trust them. Is the only way...
  3. I don't have children. I know how important it is to keep your children safe on the internet. Parential control can be expensive. Here is a really excellent Parential Control. http://www.netnanny.com/ Noticed some comments: Please be advised that there are many adults all over the world that don't have one clue on the practice of safe surfing and the danger involved related to the internet world wide. Please excuse my English not my primary language. Mind Doctor, France
  4. Here come the thumbs downs You are the parent right... so... keep an eye on them when they are on it. If you can't be there every minute, and you trust them, give them some space, but if they are doing nothing wrong, you have every right to go in a check what you can. You are not tryingto snoop, you are trying to keep them safe. It amazes me that parents are afraid to just assert their rights. Since when did kids always know what is best for them, after all that's what we're here for, to protect them and guide them. You aren't a bad parent if you go in with good intentions. Just tell them that you feel better if their gonna use it if you have all the codes. Tell them it's becasue of internet predators and that you'll be keeping an eye on the system. Keep it light and hopefully it's not an issue. My parents did this to me till I moved out... but I also never ended up in a situation that was bad for it. It didn't make me angry... at all. And Mom never looked through anything without reason. Keep your kids safe, even if it means just blatenly looking at the history. I have seen people in my family get messed up in stuff with older men on the internet... and that's scary. So Mom never wnat ed that for us and I don't want it for mine.
  5. You can't really install apps that directly interface with the PS3 built in browser, so the only way is to enable the Parental Control in the PS3 Settings -> Security Settings -> Internet Browser Start Control Other than that - your kids are probably wary that you are monitoring them and hence thats why he/she bought the PS3 accesorry to make it harder for you to snoop on. Give them a little space. You can't always keep an eye on them, and remember there's no use worrying because there is no guarenteed way to keep your kids from 'harm'. Whether you worry or not won't make a difference because your kids will still surf behind your back. And the more oppressive your rules are the more lengths they'll go to prevent you from monitoring them. The only way you can make it better is to give yourself and your kids peace of mind by loosening your grip on their internet freedom. I'd suggest you go talk to them one on one (tact carefully before you approach them so they don't get the wrong message) and educate them on the dangers of disclosing private info, cyber bullying and surfing innapropriate sites (which harbor viruses that can steal personal data). sure, you can still check on what they've been up to in their browser history, but teenagers deserve a little bit of privacy and they can be very protective of it, especially when they are learning to be independant. Hope it helps
  6. Yea, KeyProwler keeps track of PS3, they have a free 7-day trial. http://www.keyprowler.com What you do is that you install the program and it hides itself, then it records everything that is typed on the computer into a log file and it emails that logfile to your email addess I have been researching some lately to monitor my kids and KeyProwler (KeyProwler .com) looks good to me.
