Kids Room Lighting Knowledge Base

Do your kids turn lights on in every room they enter, even during the day, and crank up TV volume? No matter how many times being scolded. Yeah, in rooms that don't need much light, I've gone down to 40-watt bulbs because of this.
rope light for lighting a low ceiling bonus room? the ceilings in the room are only 8 feet tall. currently the room has zero built in lights. I wish to use the space for exercise, yoga, & kids' play room. I am looking for a built in lighting solution that will not get in the way of a yoga class with all members' arms reaching high. The ceiling joicings are sparatic and do not lend themselves to recessed cans. I am wondering if a ½" rope light running the length of the tops of each wall will provide enough light. also, can rope lights be dimmed & cut to specific lengths? the room is roughly 350 sq. feet. looking or lights I can dim (at a reasonable cost) so tube florescents are out of the question.
what are creative ways to decorate a kids room? my sister is 9, not that girly but kind of likes flowers. her room is yellow and light peach. she needs some creative and unique decorating ideas (dont say painting please) for her room. has to be stuff we have around the house and organizing ideas... thanks !!! :) best answer 10 POINTS!!!

what is best uv/ black light wattage for a glow in the dark themed kids party, the room is 20x17? I'm having a party for halloween the kids are wearing white and florecent colours. i bought a standard black light bulb but it hardly had any effect, i'm running out of time and i don't want to waste my money again. i want the room to really show up the the clothes as the kids have put so much effort into making and buying their costumes.
Do your kids turn the lights on in every room they enter? Even in the day time? How do you get them to stop?
Lighting circuit suddenly stopped working in one room? The lights in one room have suddenly stopped working. flicked the switch on but not one of twelve halogen lights worked. The fuse never tripped, what are the possible causes? I suspect that as we had some kids jumping around on the floor above, the tremors have caused a wire to come loose and break the circuit. What's the best way to test this? Will I have to take each light out and check that the wiring is intact?
Ideas for feature wall in kids room? Im looking for ideas and websites on feature walls. Im painting my daughters room most likely a light purple pallet and need ideas for a feature wall. Any ideas, mainly photos of any type of feature wall, would be great thanks.
What are dots of light floating in a darkened room? When 4 or 5 years old, I awoke, in the middle of the night, in an orphanage bedroom to see lots of dots of lights in a darkened room, floating around and lighting the room. The rest of the kids were sleeping. When I stood up in the crib, I spread the blanket to cover my bed. The light then moved as dots in waves across the room. What was that?
Why is mercury bad anywhere except in the light bulb Libs want in my kids bed room? http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2008/20080326103035.aspx

Why do parents let their kids' ring doorbell when there is no porch light on? Every year after our porch light is off and our living room lights are off, we still get kids' with their parents ringing our door, sometimes until 10:30 at night. I thought it was common knowledge that if a porch light is off on Halloween then you don't go to that door?
Space themed kids room with a mural and have some ?s about painting? Hi! We're amateurs planning on a space themed kids room for our boys. We want to paint the walls to look like outer space. I have a few questions: 1. Since it is a kids room, would we be better off getting getting semi or gloss paint rather than flat? I hear these paints wash easier than flat. 2. Has anyone painted their own murals? I see there are products available- paint by number, etc. We were thinking we could use our projector to put a picture on the wall, trace it out then fill it in. Do you think this would work? 3. As for the mural, would we use regular wall paint for that (seems like its sold in large quantities) or is there other paint to use for something like this? Also, what kind of brushes would be best for completing the mural? 4. Can we paint the walls a dark color, say navy blue, then put lighter colors on top of it? Do we need to have a paint with built in primer, like Sherwin-Williams, to accomplish this? 5. Where can we get the best paint for price? We used Wal-mart paint for the living room and it seems to be okay. (I know nothing about paint quality!) Do you think this will work fine for the kids room? Sorry for my ignorance, but thanks for your help!

How much and what kind of lighting to finish a basement? I am finishing half of my basement to use as a play room for the kids. I need to know what style and how much lighting I should use. Walls are already drywalled. I will be installing a drop ceiling. Size of the room is 21' x 10' There are no windows to the outside. Thankyou
Why can a kid leave a room with everything left on and not notice until the second you turn everything off? My kids leave on tv's, lights, playstations, xboxes, recievers, fans, ect. Then just as soon as I leave the room after turning all that off----they go back in and turn it all back on. I guess all kids have the superpower to raise electric bills?
Need some ideas to decorate kids room?!?! (BOY & GIRL)? They share a room, what are some ideas or themes just to make it look more comfy and cozy for them. I don't have alot of money to work with, but I'm willing to spend some. They have natural wood furniture and beds, the walls are already a light yellow, with blue/yellow curtains, which I'm willing to change if someone has a great idea that won't cost me thousands of dollars!
Why should kids turn off their lights after using? okay, I know the answer, because it's good for the earth and because their parents tell them to. Does anyone have any detailed reasons for kids to turn off lights after they leave a room?
What are some suggestions for carpet color in living room? Have minimal furniture (light oak ent. center, dark green couch) and raising 2 kids. Nice open room with 2 sizeable windows. Curious to see if your pick(s) match mine. Thanks!
What colors or design should I use to paint a daycare room? I run a daycare from my home, and we are building a new room just for the daycare. What color should I paint the room? I have a light gray flooring. I want the room to be fun for the kids. I need some good ideas for a creative childcare space. Should I paint the ceiling, too?

Is there a law stating that I cannot have 2 kids sharing a room in my apartment? I live in WI and LOVE my apartment. We have never had any problems with the rules or management here and like our neighbors. We have a baby daughter in her own room and are considering having another baby. Someone just suggested to me that I may not "be allowed" to have my kids share a room. It would be violating my rights for the government to restrict my kids' bedroom situation, but is there a law that says my landlord can forbid this? We want another baby, but do not plan on moving anytime soon and don't want to be asked to leave. Can someone shed some light on this?
Ideas for a kids "Broadway" themed room.....? We're re-doing a bedroom that our two daughters(6 and 10) share. They are both into theater and dance. I need color and decorating ideas to make this room come together. So far, we're stripping the floors down to wood, installing large mirrors and a barre and putting new lights and a mirror on a built in dressing table. We have lots of ideas as far as having Broadway posters and props but coming up with a color scheme to pull it all together is driving us nuts! Any good ideas?
Can a plug in type chandelier be adapted to work with the light switch? I bought a chandelier for a kids room that holds a 60 watt light bulb, but did not realize it is to plug in and hang. I want it to be a part of the ceiling with the wiring internal and functioning with the light switch- is this possible?
Is it better for my two kids to share a room? How young is too young for a basemenr room? We are expecting our second child, our son will be just over two years old when our second child is born. We have a two bedroom house with a third bedroom in the basement. The house is relatively small and the basement is finished with lots of light. My husband wants to move the master bedroom to the basement but I think it might get annoying having to walk upstairs whenever one of the kids wakes up. we are nervous to put our son in the basement bedroom as we think he might be too young and it the bedroom shares a room with the family room and we are afraid the noise form the tv might wake him up. Should the two of them just share a room? will the new baby not wake up the toddle then? Any thoughts are very welcome!
is it possible to have a spirit living in a room of your house.? my kids and me have noticed things out of place in our son's room, along with lights that were turned off - on in the morning when we wake. but just that one room.
how to make my kids sleep in their own room? i have two girls 2 and 4. neither one of them will sleep in their own bed. they would rather sleep in our room on the floor. every time i try to get them in there they scream and cry because they are "scared". they have a tv and a night light in their room. they still won't do it. do we just put them in their room ne ways and let them scream it out? we live in an apartment complex and the ppl above us have already complained about their screaming to the land lord. i need help. i don't think it is healthy for them to be in our room. it takes away from our time as husband and wife. help! i made them a star chart and on the star chart is sleeping in own room and going to bed when told. the star chart doesn't seem to be effective. i have offered an award..brand new toy or candy...if they get four stars a week how can i modify this so it will work
I have a boy and girl, sharing a room.. need some decorating ideas? Well the room is not very big, they have natural wood beds and dressers, the beds actually convert into single beds or can be stacked to make a bunk bed. The walls are painted light yellow, and they each have their own character bedding, and I have blue/yellow curtains but it just doesn't feel like a cozy room where kids would want to play! What are some ideas to bring life into this bedroom? My kids are going to be 6 and 4
Have any funny stories about your kids? I love hearing them! My son is 17 months and loves to share now. My mom was over last night and sitting on the sofa while my son brought every toy to her from his room. We thought it was so cute- then he comes out of his room carrying his light and sounds play table! He was struggling but brought it to her so she could hold it in her lap. He comes back again pushing his rocking horse and we almost died laughing. Kids.
What color to paint a basement bedroom? Recently my brother moved out of his basement bedroom to serve in the Marines. I'm making his old room into a kids room for my nephews ages 20 months to 10 years old. The carpet is gray with red, green and blue speckled. The only piece of furniture is a tan love seat with brown and white stripes...from a distance the stripes look blue. There are no windows and the lighting is florescent. I don't have the exact size of the room, but a full size bed is the largest size bed that will look right in it. Currently the walls are a light olive and it just does not look right. I was thinking about a medium to dark blue. I also thought about striping light blue and darker blue, but I wasn't sure how that would look with a striped love seat. What colors do you suggest for the walls? Any shades of white are out of the question. Also, what sheen? I was thinking a satin.
I'm re-doing my 13 year old daughters room, any ideas? Me and my hubby are re-decorating my kids room for her 14th birthday, as we're moving and all! Shes into 'alternative' music, like joy division and the smiths, linking parks.. We have (obviously) a Bed, Bookhelf, chest of drawers, and an inbuilt wardrobe. We're doing her room a lovely light blue colour and a bluey-grey, although she'll probably ruin it with all her posters, but thats her choice.. anyway, sofas? bean bag chairs? blow up chairs? bed sets? not too expensive please, as we're also getting her a PC Game. She already has a PC, Sterio, TV and DVD player by the way. Thanks Haley Morris

Working with pre-pasted wall border for my kids rooms...? My daughters wanted 2 different colors in each of their bedrooms. As an example, about 4 feet up, my oldest daughters room is light purple. 4 feet and UP is light green. She plans to do her room in a Tinkerbell motif. So where the two colors meet, I wanted to hang a border to mask the line where they meet. She has picked out her border, only I've NEVER worked with a prepasted wall border before. I know the easiest thing to do would be tack it up to the wall, but I dont want to be left with holes in the walls later on when the border is no longer wanted. So how can I hang this border and keep it straight all around the room? Any other helpful hints you can provide on this is MUCH appreciated! Please and thank you!
What is the best situation for my children sharing a room? I am due with our 3rd child in Feb. I have a 4 year old boy and an 18 month old daughter (we do not yet know the sex of the new baby). We only have 3 bedrooms, so someone has to share. Here is the scoop. My 4 year old is a sound sleeper, my 18 month old is a very light sleeper. My choice would be to have the baby share the romm with the 18 month old, as to not disrupt the feelings of the 4 year old, since he will be emotionally dealing with a new baby anyways, and we don't want him to feel like he is being uprooted. I guess the other choice is for the two older two to share as well. My husband doesn't want us to share our room either since we had both our kids sleeping through the night at 7 weeks in their own cribs, he feel like we should stick with the way we have done it (child in their room in their crib). Help with any ideas is appreciated:) thanks!!!
how should I decorate this room. It is a 4 in one room? I mean it is my toddlers daughters main bedroom/ older kids 13 nd 11 and her playroom/ guest room and my office. I want it to be fun for her but mature enough for guests and nice for me too. But allow her imagination to come into play. It is light yellow at the moment but I planning on turning it light pink. I just do not know what to do. Any suggestions would be great.

I've had it for 9 years and the kids have beaten it up pretty bad. I want to either stain it, paint it or refinish it to make it look new when we move into our new house next month. But I don't know where to start or how labor intensive this will be. Advice appreciate!!
How to use animal prints in a bedroom? We are redecorating my 9 yr old daughters bedroom. We have just painted her walls a light sage- almost lime green with white trim. She is a real animal lover and wants to us animal print fabrics in her room but I am unsure how to make it work and not overpower the room. Can I us a solid color bedding such as purple and accent with animal prints? I want to give it a jungle/safari look but still be girlish also. I see alot of various prints being mixed and matched in kids rooms these days but I am just unsure how to pull it all together. Thanks!

Do you have to cover budgies when they sleep? We recently got two budgies and their cage is in the kids' room. They got really agitated when I put a cover over them the first night, so I left it off. The problem is, my kids sleep with a night-light, so they never really get complete darkness. Will this stress them out? One other question: I don't want them to poop all over my furniture, so I don't want to let them out to fly around. Is this bad for them?
Keep the heat and light out of my room. Costs/Options? I've got a pretty large picture window in my room, it is roughly 82 inches wide and 40 inches high, I have no other windows in my room. The window is about 4/6 my wall and I have cheap dark carpeting. I need a reletivley cheap way to block out the heat, and the light. I am looking for total sun block if possible as I work in the sun all day and just want to relax in a cold room on my days off with no sun light. So far I have looked into tinting, which looks too expensive. I have also looked at "Temptrol", but I don'nt know how much it runs or if its suitable for putting on windows. I remember my parents having large dark burgundy curtains with a white plastic or rubber on the window facing when I was a kid, but I haven't been able to find any that resemble them. Cost is a pretty large factor here, please keep that in mind. any help is really appreciated, thanks. To the guy that said black sheets: I tried that, the sun beats in the window probably 7/8 hours a day on them and they make the room worst.
How do I get my 10 yr old daughter to sleep in her room alone? She is 10 yrs old and is scared to death to sleep in her room alone..She's been having nightmares of someone breaking in and trying to hurt her. It's so bad that at night when I try to make her go to her room to sleep, she cry's hysterically and begs me not to make her sleep alone. And when I have tried to stay stern about it,she forces herself to stay awake all night long...I am very concerned about this and do not know what to do...Should I seek professional help?Should I let her just sleep in our room until she is ready to go back on her own?She is 10 yrs old,but she is still a little kid...I am really lost here and need some good advice..Any thoughts...Oh,we have tried night lights, letting her sleep with the tv or stereo on,I've tried staying til she fell asleep, but she wakes as soon as I try to leave, and I've tried making her sleep alone, nothing has worked...Any suggestions?
A six year old is seeing a ghost in her room, what do I do? Out of the blue this neighborhood kid tells me there is a boy in her room. He goes away when the lights are on. What do you think of kids sharing rooms? We have a three bedroom house and three kids, so my two girls are sharing. One is 5 the other is a baby. The only thing is 5 year old is messy and likes to spread her toys out when playing games and when i go in to get baby in and out of cot it frustrates me. Also sometimes the 5 year old cant play in there with light on or curtains open. I would like to get another house with 4 bedrooms but it seems like a drastic option. Other child is a boy so wouldnt get him to share with either of the others. Just wondering what other people think of kids sharing rooms?

Camping Room Ideas for a Toddler Boy? Our son has a camping theme room, fairly good size room. We painted it Limey Grassy Green and it has tan carpet and white ceilings with a white ceiling fan. He has 2 giant Leaves over his light wooden twin bed (leaves are from Ikea). He has camping themed bedding and bug sheets (although I'd be interested in finding another set of the bug sheets - we got the bedding set from Target on clearance a couple years ago). He has a matching lamp with scout patches on it. He has a nightstand and a dresser with a mirror on it. My dad is making him a canoe bookshelf (either red or navy blue). He just has regular blinds on his windows right now. Oh, and a big green bug light on his wall. Along the wall that the big leaves and his bed is on, we have his name letters - navy blue from Pottery Barn Kids. Any ideas for things to put on his dresser and bookshelf? Also, we could use 1 or 2 big pictures for his wall!

I did a faux glaze on my walls - love it. The color is in the beige family but looks peach. I stained my floor a red oak color...I'm getting used to it. I thought I wanted to go dark, but after I sanded the floors I thought the light color was beautiful. I went with the red oak simply because I had been dreaming of that for so long. Anyway, my living room and dining room have a traditional feel to them. I'm not a decorator by far but, in my mind I like an airy feel to my house as well as the spanish look. Any decorators out there see where I'm going? I need help bringing about the look with what I've done. I have a fireplace, blinds (white) and a beige throw rug. My couch (which will be moved upstairs to the kids room once I purchase a new one) is brown/beige/black - leaves all over it. Help.
We are looking to remove the carpet in the bedrooms and replace with some type of do it yourself wood flooring? I am looking for something light in color, durable (we have 1 kid and 2 cats) and something that I could install myself. We also have a pool so wet clothes in the kids room does happen. Also, ofcourse something that is easy to maintain. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Alan I am looking for something light in color, durable (we have 1 kid and 2 cats) and something that I could install myself. We also have a pool so wet clothes in the kids room does happen. How do I get kids to stay in bed at night? My boys 3 & 5 share a room and will not stay in bet after 'lights out' (mostly the younger one). We have tried: putting them back without talking, radio, nightlight, negotiating, ignoring, backrubs... and noting works. All serious ideas are welcome, I'm going nuts here!
What is the best way to get a smudge off a living room wall? My wall paint is a light coffee brown color, and I have a smudge that one of my kids accidentally made...about palm size. I don't want to make the smudge worse. How do I get rid of the smudge without making worse? I am sorry, I don't know what "type" of paint it is. Thank you in advance for your help. Looks like dirty kid palm, if i had to describe it.
im painting my room a pale purple grayish color and i went chettah accents, im 16 so i dont want kid stuff.? i have dark cherry brown furniture and a light brown suede comforter and decorative purple pillows that will look cute! and i was thining blacks and whites as well for posters of audrey hephburn and elvis in leopard frames or in brown frames on my walls and purple candels w/ leopard ribbon tied around. how does this sound? nay mroe ideas?
Do you think this would be a good colour scheme for my new room? Red, black, white, and chrome? I'm 16 and want to make my room more adult, or at least less like a kids room. I guess like a teenager type room lol. I want to paint my walls red, have black furniture (bed, dresser, bookshelf, nightstand, tv stand..), white details like the ceiling, trims, door.. and chrome things like my desk, lamp, light fixtures, handles on dressers and stuff.. yeah. Does that sound like it would look alright? Any tips to make it better? I'm a transman so I'd really like to avoid anything feminine. I also just like simple, more modern things. Anyway, thanks!
What color sofa for the family room - offwhite or light brown? I am looking for a sofa for the living room. The carpet is offwhite in color and the walls are also light colored. I have light brown window treatments. What color would look nice? Is maintaining a light colored couch quite difficult? We are expecting our first kid end of this year, but we have a separate family room. Thanks for your help.
Having Superbowl Party..what should the kids do? My husband and I are having a Superbowl Party this year. Were having about 15 adults over and 12 kids. 8 of the 12 kids are under the age of 10. They won't want to watch the game so what are some things that I could have them do? We live on a big lot so we have a huge backyard. We have a playground and a sandpit. We also have a heated pool and were going to have it heated so the kids can go swimming. By the time the game starts it's going to be near dark out. So I set up the play room as a movie theater. So whoever can pop a movie in for some of the kids. The living room and family room area we have tv's set up for everyone to watch the game. The kids aren't going to be outside the whole game because we don't have lights that far out in our yard to reach. So what are some more things I can set up or something? Please help
Poll For Thumbs Up For Our Man/Women In Blue? 700 Arrest In A Porno Ring! 31 Children Saved!? LONDON - Authorities say police have shattered a global Internet pedophile ring, rescuing 31 children and rounding up more than 700 suspects in dozens of countries - including Canada. The British-based Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre says some 200 suspects are based in the United Kingdom. The centre says the ring was traced to an Internet chat room called "Kids the Light of Our Lives" that featured images of children being subjected to horrific sexual abuse. The investigation involved agencies from 35 countries and has gone on for 10 months. Among agencies that helped in the investigation was the Toronto Police Service, which conducted online surveillance along with British police, the centre said. Toronto police say they've arrested 10 people since March 2006, bringing the total number of Canadian arrests to 24 since late 2005, and seven Canadian children were rescued. Kermit- I'm sorry you feel this is a chat, Please read my posting! It did say POLL. Didn't read CHAT dear! Thank you and you are who?
How can I document damaging sinusoidal misaffectment of reading skills? There is an ongoing plot to damage our(kids'/everybody's) reading and therefore education by strobing our reading rooms with fluorescent lighting instead of the steady light of natural and incandescent lighting. Maybe I need an optomitrist colaborer. You won't find tubed lighting at their facillities.
WHERE DO WE GO FROM iin sex education to our kids? Standard sex education today "tends to be morally bankrupt. It begins with a biological description of sexual function and fertility (known in the trade as the organ concert) and it ends with indoctrination in conception, abortion and venereal disease. Basic to this pedagogy is the belief that youngsters will not accept moral ideals and should at least (or at most) be helped to cut their losses." - Father James Burtchaell Raising children these days is not an easy job. No wonder many Americans do not want to get married, and if they do, do not want to have children. Each child needs the individual attention of both parents, and time, a most precious gift that we are sometimes unable to find for our children. Parents who were themselves raised either in a different country or in a different generation, where peer pressure was different, have more difficulty in raising today's children. They also do not get much help from television or the school system. What kinds of suggestions do I have for them. First of all, I do not like using the phrase, 'setting limits'. No one likes to take orders these days in this free society. A better term would be educated guidelines for both parents and youth. Even better is the term 'informed consent', the kind we use in medicine before asking a patient to agree to a procedure or a test. Once a person is informed of the consequences of right and wrong, then he or she can make an intelligent decision. Unfortunately, smaller children are not able to make that decision for themselves, so parents will have to do it for them until the child reaches the age of maturity. Children have a right to be treated as people, in an environment that is conducive for their growth and maturity and to become useful citizens. Children have a right to love, care, discipline and protection from their parents. Children have a right to receive education and financial protection for the future. Parents have a right to receive love, respect and affection from their children. Parents have a right to educate and discipline their children. Parents have a right to know about their children and monitor other influences affecting them. Parents have a right to say no to unusual financial and other demands of children. The next question is, "Why set limits or give guidelines? Why not let the boat sail without a sail in an uncharted sea?" If it does, most likely this boat will end up at a destination where it never wanted to be. Thus, not only do we need to prepare for the present but also for the future. All those children who are adults now, who were reared with discipline, appreciate what their parents did when they were children in terms of discipline, although it appeared at that time that the discipline was too tough." The next question becomes, "In what areas should we set limits? The most important area is time management. Children, as well as adults, waste too much time in watching TV, listening to music, talking on the telephone, and other unnecessary activities. They must realize that whatever time they are wasting, they are taking it away from some more useful work like homework or housework. Therefore, they must set limits and assign priorities with respect to their time management. Their health comes first. Next comes homework and education and then time spent in improving interpersonal relationships. Another question is who should set the limit? Traditionally, it is seen as the father's role and sometimes the mother's role, an elder brother for a younger brother, or an elder sister for a younger sister. On the other hand, the truth is the one who is better qualified and more experienced should set the limits for the one who is less qualified and less experienced. In terms of religion, the one with stronger faith and righteous deeds should set limits for the one who has less, regardless of age. Sometimes it is seen that the parents are less practicing Muslims than the children themselves. In that case, the children should advise the parents. Teachers have a much greater role to play. However, the limits should be taken in the light of permission and responsibility from God. SOME SUGGESTIONS TO PARENTS Choose a good neighborhood school. Know the teachers personally and interact with them. Neglected children expose themselves to various abuses. Supervise their homework. Watch TV with your children and select good educational and entertainment programs. Comment on the negative aspects of the program. Cut down TV time to less than twelve hours on weekdays and twenty-two hours on weekends. Encourage outdoor activity. Encourage them to read newspapers and good magazines Growing children may not obey an order, but they will do things out of love and respect for their parents. Love and respect on a mutual basis is our best weapon against all the negative influences. Parental love should be unconditional and not based on their achievements. Love should not be confused with permissiveness or overlooking a child's faults. Pointing out faults of the child should not diminish the love by the parents. Children are not bom knowing all the rights or wrongs in social norm. They need clear guidelines about good and bad behavior. The greatest effect is the parent's attitude, example and behavior rather than words. Parents should set the same standards for themselves as they set for their children and share with them information of all kinds whether related to the outside world or inside the family. It is not the knowledge which hurts but the lack of it, or misuse of it, which causes problems. Parents should help children to make appropriate decisions and be responsible for them. Younger children can only make decisions about the present (i.e., what clothes to wear that day), but older children can make decisions that may affect their future, under parental guidance (i.e., selection of school, college and career). Children should be taught to share household work, keep their desk and room clean, and how to handle their 'own' money. Let them spend all their money and suffer from the lack of it. The overprotective and anxious parent cannot raise a confident child ready to deal with the real world. This child will feel danger everywhere. While the child has to be supervised, he or she does not need the physical presence of the parent all the time. They should raise a strong child. The parent who cannot say no to a child spoils the child. This child will make unreasonable demands and put on a manipulative show. The parents have to discipline themselves in order to discipline their children. Parents who take sides in sibling rivalry encourage jealousy and hate. They should not prefer boys over girls, fair complexions over dark ones, the honor roll over an average student. Neither party can influence the other unless they communicate. Find a time and place to talk to your children. Children are sometimes in a 'bad mood' upon returning from school, loaded with homework. The best time to have a chat is during breakfast and evening dinner. During this time, the parent can inform the child of all the good things he or she did that day and ask the child the same and share his or her problems. When you do argue, do it patiently, one person speaking at a time. Be specific and separate emotion from facts. Speak in a low tone, Screaming decreases the intake of the message. Practice active listening from each other's view, even if you don't agree. Refrain from sarcasm, name calling, humiliating, pointing your finger, etc. Encourage each other even in areas of shortcoming, rather than making fun or making a negative remark, i.e., if the child brings a B- report, then instead of, "I doubt you will ever improve or pass your exam," say, "B is better than C," and "I am sure you are talented enough to do better. May I help you in the areas that you have difficulties in at school?" The purpose of giving them chores is to keep them busy as well as to teach them responsibility. Initially it may be boring but eventually will become routine. The assignment should be according to age and not the sex of the child. However, children should not be forced into doing things, or otherwise they will rebel. By the same token, they should not be penalized for mistakes. The best payment for a job is a smile, hug, thank you or praising the child in the presence of others, rather than money. While it may be all right to give an allowance, it should not be tied to the job. SETTING LIMITS IN GENDER INTERACTION In Islam intimate mixing of youth and adults of opposite sexes by themselves is not permitted for social reasons. Thus we oppose dating and all such activities. Nevertheless, there is a need for Muslim boys and girls over eighteen to get to know each other so that when they attain the age for marriage, hopefully, they will choose a Muslim spouse. This can be done in a supervised setting whether during a community function, mosque, ISNA or MYNA convention. Talking to a non-mahram for business or religious reasons is permitted in Islam. Both boys and girls, men and women, should lower their gaze, dress appropriately and talk in a business manner and not in a seductive way. The right of God is that He should be believed in, He should be worshiped and He should be obeyed. Thus, if we set limits and discipline ourselves, the reward is immense and includes not only success in this world but also in the hereafter with the pleasure of God. http://www.themodernreligion.com/misc/sex/s1.html

I have been following the story and having a small child, well I got to tell you I cried. EVERYTIME I LOOKED AT MY CHILD!!! That could be her. I hope they rot in hell for what they did to those children. They don't deserve to breath the same air we do.
According to a news report, In London they just smashed a world -wide "ring of pedophiles" What will happen? The police have rescued 31 children. KUDOS to that! but it is supposed to extend into 35 countries, over 700 arrested so far. They are supposed to have been traced from a chat room,"kids of the Light of our Lives" this is just sick! What can be done to prevent this sort of thing?
What was the kids show where when the humans were gone the toys came to life? They never showed the full adults, it was only like their legs. Then the one kid would leave the room and all the toys would come to life. I also remember there being a toy store where when the owner turned off the lights, all the toys came to life. I'm not sure if they were the same show but does anyone know what it was called? It was on the disney channel and it wasn't Noddy's Shop
Any parents whose kids have problems sleeping? My 4 year old son has troubles sleeping in his own room at night. He would be fine when we were there to accompany him. But if he wakes up in the middle of the night and we're not there, he would start crying and screaming. He says he's scared of the dark. But we always let the night light in his room on. Any idea why the night light is not helping at all? also any suggestion as to what we should do?
i need a cheap room for 6 days downtown toronto? i just need a very inexpensive quiet place to lie my head to rest and a quick shower, toilet -good lighting would be helpful so i can read and write for 6 days only ...i am just visiting my kid and haven't seen him for 4 years and really miss him.
My 4 yr. old is scared of the dark/ his room....? Ok well to sum this up quick...My fiance, her 2 kids and I just moved into a new place. Her 4 yr. old son has never had his own room and is really scarred of it. He is so used to sleeping in the same room as his 6 yr old sister. Well my fiance is really sick lately and I have been doing most of the stuff with and for the kids. Which I dont mind at all! But I was just curious to know some things or tips to help him adjust. We already have 2 night lights in his room and this morning when I woke up @ 5:45 am he went into his sisters room and they were sitting up talking. He had all the lights on and he said he was scarred. I have slept with him in his room when he came into ours in the middle of the night. Any ideas? Thank you for your time and help!!
Has anyone seen ball lighting (plasma balls)recently? I saw one when I was a kid, It came into my friends room. It came as a streak of lighting and then formed into a ball about the size of a basket ball. Cream colored and hovered in the middle of the room. Next minute, it blew up into a scatter of many small different sized balls, then it came back together. Next thing that happened, it went right out the same window it came in.! I swear that thing knew what it was doing, l talked to an authur "Stanley Singer" about it along time ago, but never got back with him, He did a book about ball lighting.
How do you get a husband to turn off the lights when he leaves the room? My husband has a very bad habit of not turning of the lights when he leaves a room. I am sick & tired of asking him to turn off the lights every single time. I could just turn it off for him(like his parents used to when he was younger...this is really all their fault for spoiling him) but I am not home all the time to monitor his energy wasting habits. Besides, this is something that he should do anyways. Why does anyone have to remind him? I am extremely upset not just because of our high utility bills, but because I feel that we should all do our bit to conserve the earth's limited resources(it so happens to be Earth Day today). I am also upset because he obviously has no regard for what I say.Whenever I point out to him that the lights are not turned off, he'll apologize, and what do you know....he goes into the next room and does the same thing again(less than 5 mins after)!! How can we teach our kids to conserve energy when their dad is so irresponsible? I am so tired. Thank you Magic 8 Ball for your suggestion....however this will not work with him. I take care of the bills(joint account), and even if I show him the amount, he doesn't care what the amount is. He just doesn't care and he always says he has better things to worry about than turning off the lights. I have already changed all the bulbs to energy efficient ones. I agree with aamoore1. I am tired of nagging(I only have to nag because it doesn't get done the first 10 times!!) and I should not impose my views on him. However, what kind of example is he setting to the kids when they are older? The kids might feel like they don't have to turn off the lights too because "daddy doesn't do it"....and then what?? This will be a vicious cycle. We can't make a drastic difference to save the world, but one small step from each person will make a difference. And I would like that difference to start in our home.
My daughter is scared of her own room... PLEASE help..use your imaginations, what if it was your kid? My daughter is almost 7 years old. We have lived in this house for over three years. She has just started this thing where she's scared to be in her own room, unless the light is on. Before I read a story and say goodnight prayers with her and tuck her in, she has me to "please check the corners". She says she is scared because she hears noises. She's also scared that there will be vampires there, because of some stupid movie her biological father apparantly thought it was okay for her to watch (I have joint custody). What can I do that might help her out? At this point, I am ready to try almost anything. She has a television up there, and a nightlight, which has helped a little. ANY IDEAS??
HELP! Putting 3 kids to bed.......so hard? Here is the situation. My sister and her husband have four beautiful babys. Oldest girl is 4, twins boy and girl are 3, and youngest boy is 1 1/2. The problem is that my sister only has a two bedroom place right now and bed time is a challenge. The youngest 1 1/2 year old, sleeps in the parents room so he is not a part of the bed time night mares.......yet. Last night I was over at bed time, 8 pm, this is about how the night went. The three kids would scream, turn on the light, hit eachother, say they had to go potty, climb in the window, SCREAM, jump on eachothers beds, and God knows what else for 4 HOURS! Those kids where up until 12 am. My sister and her husband had to go in numerouse times to put them back in bed, time out, potty, and whatever else needed to be taken care of. I felt so crushed by what was going on because I could see my sister get so frustrated to the point where she started crying. I wish I had a solution. They have pretty much tried everything. PLEASE HELP!
How do I get my 5 year old son to sleep in his own room? My son is the youngest of two kids. His sister is 11. He is the baby & both of them have gotten everything they wanted & more. He slept in his own crib & room until he was 2. Then my husband & I separated for a year and he slept in bed with my husband when he visited, he only had a 1 bedroom apartment. When my husband & I got back together Patrick was used to sleeping with him so I let it continue. He is now 5 & I have done evrything to make him sleep in his own room. Disney Cars bedsheets, like 10 night lites, the hallway lite is on as is his bathroom lite & his TV is on. He finishes his movie shuts off the lights & sneaks into his sister's room & sleeps with her. If her door is locked he will sleep in the hallway. I do not know what to do. If you ask him when he will sleep in his own room he says when he is 10. I can not wait that long! Help!
My girlfriend sleeps with kids when they are here, THEY ARE 13girl and 12 boy? When we lived in a 1 bed room apartment, I was kicked out of bed and slept on the sofa while the 13 year old girl and 12 year old boy get the bed with their mom. I put up with it for over a year. Now we have a 3 bedroom house, each room has a bed, But she continues to sleep with them and then come back to our bed when ever she wakes up in the middle of the night.( some time 12:00 am sometimes never ) I really don't think it is just me that thinks it is strange to sleep with your 2 teen kids when they come on the weekends. Am i wrong for starting fights saying she needs to sleep in bed with her spouse and show them that we are a "United front" per say. what effect could this have on the kids. I know the12yr boy is scared of his own shadow after watching a scary movie. He wont even walk into the kitchen when the light is on and I'm in the living room. He yells for his sis or mom to go with him. Am i a bad person for feeling so strong about her sleeping with them and not me

Smoking next to kids at home? My wife smokes a lot, pretty much everywhere we go even if our 2 kids (12 and 7) are there. At home in the living room, in the car, at the restaurants, outside. I am worried about my kids, if they go to safeway or costco she goes outside with the kids and smokes for 5 minuets. Her old ciggies are all over the house! My kids act as if its a normal thing! One time, in an airport she wanted to smoke but she couldnt so she demanded to speak to the manager! I love her so much but everytime I mention this she gets mad and lights another one up! --teggie... I AM worried! I wrote: I am worried about my kids,

I want to Decorate my room really cool? I am 18 years old and I want to change my room. I alday painted it purple but it still looks mostly the way it did when I was little. My celing is white as is my bunk bed, dresser and and book shelves so that's kinda fine. But I for the windows I only have stick blinds that my cats use to climb up as the top bunk.(my room doubles as a guest room) But anyway I was thinking on putting hooks on my cieling and then hanging scares form them to cover the ceiling color I already got permisoins. I like Bright or kinda light colors(but not pastle) for like all the rainbow colors. I love fairies and all that. I want my room to look like you just walked into a fairytale or a tent that little kids used to make as a child. I was also going to hang lights that look like little lamps from the cirling. what do you think Also I would like cool and unigue ieda's for this Oh yeah the room I have is like middum-ish but at the same time small becuase the bunk bed is so big. If i could figure out hot to make the bed turn into a couch my room woulg be bigger Oh yeah the room I have is like middum-ish but at the same time small becuase the bunk bed is so big. Room decorating.? I am trying to decorate my room nicely, but I can't do too much with it. It's pretty big, about 12x14ft. I have white and tan tiles and very light green walls. I'd say mint green. I have a futon bed with pink bedding and lots of pillows. I have 2 pink chairs. One is fold up, and the other is like a little kid chair kind of. I have a light colored wood dresser with 4 drawers. I have a big cabinet that has 3 shelves and 2 drawers. I have a shelf set and it's white and it has 3 shelves too. I have a little nightstand and it's wicker. I have a box and it's got cats on it and it's kinda big. I have a computer desk that I don't use for a computer since I have a laptop. I have lots of stuff. I have a walk in closet, it's kind of small, but it works. It has a white box in it that takes up alot of space, but I can't take it out. I have alot of clothes in there and quite a bit of stuff. Any ideas how to make it look nice without making huge changes? Like, just changing accessories or something?
why do shows on tv really put fat kids down? they have enough problems at school with other kids.? i mean obese kids need to eat healthy but not all are going to die at 60, blow up to 400 pounds, be miserable, no friends, etc. like on the show honey we're killing the kids. it tries to be positive but to see into the future of how a fat kid is going to look and they try to make them look as horrible as possible to scare the parents. i read where the rickard family said they made their kids seem lazy and did nothing, when in fact they played all kinds of sports, football, baseball. some of these shows mean well but are put out and makes it worse sometimes. i'm sure the older kid, at 12 years old, did not want his friends or enemies, anybody to know he was scared to sleep with lights out or his brother was still sleeping in his parents room at age 8.

Room ideas? Details inside.? I feel like fixing up my room. I'm somewhat of a "scene" kid and I like bright colors and wierd things. I believe in feng shui. My room also has a lot of room. Any ideas to make it more like me. It's pretty boring right now. The wall colors are navy, light blue, lavender, and dark purple, by the way.
did you get smacked as a kid?...do you smack your kids? Well when me and my brother where kids we got smacked not beaten just smacked on the bottem. And the best way to get me inline was to smack meon a bair bottem. I remeber when my parents started spanking.it was when i was at my grandmas house with my mum and i was rude to her and my grandma took my hand and took me to the kitchen and took out a wooden spoon nelt down removed my skirt and pants and said if your mother spoke tome the way you did this is what she would have got...then she took me up to my mums old room and made me sit on the chair witch my mum used to have to sit on. i never misbehaved when she was around again i tell you. my kids get a smack bum as a last resort through love. i am grateful to my grandmother as what she did changed the way i acted completly i ask theparents who say i only give them a light tap...what would you call a light tap i would say that is mearly touching them and wouldnt have any affect. what is so wrong with smacking i also ask the parents who who say they would only smack there child on the hand and never the bum why because it hurts more on the hand as there is not fat where as a bum is as some one said to me 'like a big cusion' and a friend said to me in the bible it says spare the rob spoil the child god made the bottem cushiony for this reason
Kids say the funniest things! Star if funny!? She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter as she'd done many times before. After she applied her lipstick and started to leave, the little one said, "But Gramma, you forgot to kiss the toilet paper good-bye!" ##### My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him, "62." He was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, "Did you start at 1?" ##### After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, "Who was THAT?" ##### A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like: "We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods." The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!" ##### My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, "Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?" I mentally polished my halo while I asked, "No, how are we alike?" "You're both old," he replied. ##### A little girl was diligently pounding away on her grandfather's word processor. She told him she was writing a story. "What's it about?" he asked. "I don't know," she replied. "I can't read." ##### I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me and was always correct. It was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door, saying sagely, "Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!" ##### When my grandson Billy and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the lights off until we were inside to keep from attracting pesky insects. Still, a few fireflies followed us in. Noticing them before I did, Billy whispered, "It's no use, Grandpa. The mosquitoes are coming after us with flashlights." ##### When my grandson asked me how old I was, I teasingly replied, "I'm not sure." "Look in your underwear, Grandpa," he advised. "mine says I'm four to six." ##### A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother, "Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today." The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. "That's interesting," she said, "how do you make babies?" "It's simple," replied the girl. "You just change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es'." ##### Children's Logic: "Give me a sentence about a public servant," said a teacher. The small boy wrote: "The fireman came down the ladder pregnant." The teacher took the lad aside to correct him. "Don't you know what pregnant means?" she asked. "Sure," said the young boy confidently. "It means carrying a child." ##### A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back," said one child. "No," said another, "he's just for good luck." A third child brought the argument to a close. "They use the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrants..."

Well at 2:30pm i went to bed b4 he went to work at 3:30pm as i was really tired the baby was sleppin so he only had to get himself ready, at 3:20pm i heard the front door close, i went to the livingroom & found that he had left for work and couldn't even bother to tell me or even mention to the kids that he was going,so he left the two boys to look after the baby while i was asleep, its just a good job that iam a light sleeper, who knows what would have happened. Now iam trying to call him to see why he didnt tell me or even just bring baby to the room to me, but he doesn't answer the phone. They were finally ready to discuss the last one. The teacher asked if anyone could tell her what it was. Susie raised her hand, stood tall, and quoted, "Thou shall not take the covers off thy neighbor's wife." Our five-year-old grandson couldn't wait to tell his grandfather about the movie we had watched on television, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." The scenes with the submarine and the giant octopus had kept him wide-eyed. In the middle of the telling, my husband interrupted Mark, "What caused the submarine to sink?" With a look of incredulity Mark replied, "Grandpa, it was the 20,000 leaks!!" When my grandson Billy and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the lights off until we were inside to keep from attracting pesky insects. Still, a few fireflies followed us in. "Look in your underwear, Grandma," he advised. "Mine says I'm four to six." A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother, "Grandma, guess what?
